Forward Deployed Engineer

Огляд

Theseus is an American technology company building robotic situational awareness at the edge, starting with visual positioning on drones. The company builds software that helps platforms operate when GPS is jammed, spoofed, or unavailable, and designs it for the realities of contested environments: low-cost hardware, rough deployment conditions, and the need to scale fast.
Theseus is seeking Forward Deployed Engineers to deploy and integrate its technology with customers in Ukraine. The engineers will work as part of the forward deployed team to integrate the company’s software onto drone platforms with OEMs, military units, and other operational partners.
This role sits at the intersection of software, systems integration, flight testing, and field operations. Forward Deployed Engineers will be responsible for taking integrations from initial bring-up through successful deployment and sustained field performance.
This is a highly hands-on role. The engineers will spend significant time writing and debugging code, working directly with drone hardware, supporting flight testing and deployments, and solving problems alongside customers and operators.
The right person is equally comfortable debugging an integration, working with an OEM engineering team, supporting operators in the field, and rapidly adapting systems based on what they learn during deployment.

Обов'язки

  • end-to-end ownership of deployments, from initial OEM integration and flight testing through operator handoff and sustained field performance
  • integration of the company’s software with drone OEMs and direct collaboration with engineering teams across autopilots, onboard compute, sensors, networking, telemetry, and operator interfaces
  • direct work with military units and operators to understand operational requirements, support deployments, troubleshoot issues, and adapt systems to real battlefield constraints
  • writing and modification of Python and C++ code to support integrations, tooling, debugging, testing, and deployment workflows
  • integration of software onto drone platforms, particularly ArduPilot-based systems
  • bring-up, testing, and troubleshooting of complete systems spanning autopilots, companion computers, sensors, networking, telemetry links, and ground/operator interfaces
  • flight testing and field validation, including rapid failure diagnosis and improvement of operational reliability
  • training of OEM partners, operators, and military units on integration, deployment, troubleshooting, and field best practices
  • translation of field feedback into engineering priorities, product improvements, and repeatable integration and deployment workflows
  • communication between customers and the broader engineering team to ensure field insights are incorporated into the product
  • travel within Ukraine to support integrations, testing, deployments, and operational requirements

Вимоги

  • strong hands-on experience with ArduPilot and real drone integration work
  • strong programming skills in Python and/or C++
  • experience building tools, debugging production systems, and working across mixed software and hardware stacks
  • experience managing complex technical integrations from initial bring-up through successful deployment
  • strong systems-level debugging skills across software, compute, sensors, networking, telemetry, and hardware interfaces
  • high degree of ownership and bias for action
  • ability to diagnose problems quickly, work independently, and drive toward working outcomes under real-world constraints
  • ability to work effectively with drone OEM engineering teams, military units, operators, and other external partners
  • strong communication skills and ability to translate operational requirements and field feedback into clear engineering priorities
  • ability to work in fast-moving environments with changing requirements, priorities, and constraints
  • willingness and ability to travel within Ukraine as required
  • fluency in English

Nice to Have

  • experience with MAVLink, companion computers, onboard Linux systems, telemetry links, and field networking
  • experience integrating software onto drones, robots, or other edge hardware platforms
  • experience working directly with drone OEMs and taking integrations from prototype through production or operational deployment
  • experience working directly with military units or operators and adapting systems to mission-specific workflows and constraints
  • experience with PX4, mission-planning software, telemetry systems, or operator-facing tooling
  • experience with flight testing and diagnosing hardware and software issues from flight logs and telemetry
  • experience in defense, dual-use, robotics, autonomy, or other high-reliability field environments
  • fluency in Ukrainian

Умови

  • full-time employment
  • in-person work from the office in Kyiv
  • flexible working environment
  • competitive compensation
  • significant responsibility and autonomy from day one
  • opportunity to work closely with a small international team building technology that is already being deployed in Ukraine
