The Serpens Center for International Security (SCIS) is an independent Ukrainian think tank focused on defense and security issues. Its mission is to strengthen the approaches of Ukraine and its allies to shaping, building, and sustaining their own defense capabilities, as well as to facilitate the creation of new security alliances required by the 21st century.

Operating throughout Ukraine, SCIS conducts research, implements programs, and builds partnerships that transform Ukraine's hard-won defense experience into shared and sustainable Western security. Serpens Center encourages and welcomes applications from veterans, active duty military, and people with combat experience.

Обов'язки

• ownership of editorial standards across SCIS publications, including the monthly defense tech magazine, Substack, and future publication formats
• development and management of the editorial calendar
• editing of content produced by in-house analysts and external contributors
• development and management of a network of contributors, including coordination of terms and deadlines
• ownership of audience growth, including defining target audiences for each publication and growing readership among Ukrainian and Western defense, policy, industry, and investment audiences
• management of content distribution alongside the communications team across newsletters, social media, media and institutional partnerships, and events
• collaboration with the analytics team and leadership to transform SCIS research into publishable formats

Вимоги

• proven experience as an editor, managing editor, or publication lead, with published work you commissioned or edited
• demonstrated experience growing an audience for a publication, newsletter, or media product from a small base
• excellent written and spoken Ukrainian and English, with the ability to edit to publication standard in both
• sound editorial judgment about what is worth publishing and the confidence to say no
• ability to manage an editorial calendar and maintain deadlines across several contributors simultaneously
• willingness to fact-check technical material you did not write yourself
• existing fluency in defense technology and security will be an advantage
• experience with newsletter and publishing platforms, basic audience analytics, and working with designers will be an advantage
• military service experience or veteran status will be an advantage
• experience working in a think tank, media outlet, defense company, or government agency will be an advantage
